The ultimate in comfort food! I’ve never actually tried to make this, but it was worth a go on a particularly cold evening after chores. While I am not much of a heavy food person, I did really enjoy this. We had it with mashed potatoes and green beans. I liked this recipe and would not make any changes. It does require gravy, which I don’t include here – use your favorite recipe for beef gravy.
- 1 lb ground beef (I used 93% lean and would probably use an 85% next time)
- 1 medium onion, grated
- 1/2 c. unseasoned dried breadcrumbs (I used gluten free panko, but regular breadcrumbs would be fine)
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp ketchup (I used Primal Kitchen tomato-free ketchup)
- 1 tbsp country Dijon
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Kosher salt and freshy grated black pepper
- canola oil
Make patties: Combine beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire in a bowl. Gently mix with your hands, being careful not to overmix. Shape into 4 patties. Season with salt and pepper.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook, turning once, until brown and cooked through, 8 to 12 minutes. Transfer to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm while they rest and gravy is made.
